Mick Jones of The Clash Receives Honor For Charity Work
Posted by Joseph Lee on 02.26.2013

The Liverpool Echo reports that The Clash's Mick Jones has been named an "honorary Scouser" for his work on the charity single "He Aint Heavy, He's My Brother" with the Justice Collective. A "scouser" is someone from Liverpool who speaks with the distinctive accent of the area.

The honor was given to Jones and producer Guy Chambers by Liverpool Lord Mayor Cllr Sharon Sullivan.

"He Aint Heavy" was the 2012 Christimas #1 song and raised funds for the families of the 96 Liverpool football fans who died in a stampede at the Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield during the FA Cup semifinal in 1989.

While at the Cavern club to say thank you to those who helped with the record, Sullivan said: "While they were both born outside of the city they have made an outstanding contribution to Liverpool's musical heritage. It is a pleasure to call them honorary Scousers."

Jones (also part of the Justice Tonight tour) added: "It's been such an honor to be involved. As soon as I heard about it I knew I wanted to be involved, and it's always a pleasure to come up here."

Other musicians featured on the song included Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Shane Macgowan, Gerry Marsden, Melanie C, Paloma Faith, Jon McClure, Dave McCabe of The Zutons, Ren Harvieu, John Power, Paul Heaton, Holly Johnson, Rebecca Ferguson and Eliza Doolittle.
