Kanye West's Yeezus Could Sell 500,000 In First Week
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 06.12.2013

Kanye West's new album is predicted to have a huge first week in sales. Billboard reports that industry analysts are pegging Yeezus to sell as many as 500,000 copies in its first week once it debuts on June 18th.

While that is of course a pre-release prediction and the actual number could vary wildly, history for this year would suggest it is being overly conservative. Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience was initially predicted for around 500,000 copies before release and actually sold 968,000 copies when the final number was tallied, and Daft Punk's Random Access Memories was pegged at 250,000 - 300,000 and finished with 339,000. The odds that it will sell less than 500,000 are remarkably low.

If it does top half a million, the album will do a better first week than both his Watch the Throne collaboration with Jay-Z and his last LP, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Those discs sold 436,000 copies and 498,000 in their first weeks, respectively. That's even more impressive considering that Yeezus has had minimal studio promotion and no first single sent to radio. The album also has yet to leak.
