And her next single...
Katy Perry's song co-writer and regular collaborator Bonnie McKee has opened up about Perry's new album Prism, which will be out on October 22. She said the third album will focus on several different subjects and emotions. She added that the other songs were not like her single "Roar".
"It's kind of like every song is its own little movie, so this is 'Rocky' and also kind of jungle-y and cat-themed. And then each song has its own little movie and its own visual to go along with it. So I wouldn't say it's all going to be like this. Like the next one, as far as I know, is going to be a big one too. I'm really excited for the next one. [it's] really colorful and really bright."
She said there will be more "empowerment" songs like "Roar" on the album, adding the following…
"Katy and I are co-writers and she's a great songwriter in her own right. And I think we're a great team because we don't let the other settle. So it's really like pound for pound, it's a co-write."
McKee said that Perry had a specific plan for Prism. She said: "Well, you know, we work with [producers] Dr. Luke and Max Martin, they're like melodic geniuses, and they kind of come to us with tracks. Katy had ideas about what she wanted. So she had a very specific idea of what she wanted. They come back with the track and we kind of find the story within the track."
Perry will perform at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 25. McKee also talked about that performance. She concluded: "Oh my god! I'm so excited. It's always exciting to hear lyrics that I've written being up onstage in front of all the crowd and seeing people react. It's like a really magical moment. I always cry every time."
The event takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Other performers include Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Bruno Mars, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and more.
