Deadline reports that Randy Jackson is in talks to stay on American Idol for season thirteen as an in-house mentor, replacing Jimmy Iovine (founder of Interscope Records and chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M).
Iovine is leaving the show after three seasons. He started in season ten, which was the first season without original judge Simon Cowell, as he was meant to fill the void left by Cowell's exit. Interscope Geffen A&M also took over from Cowell's label to handle the albums of Idol finalists.
The producers are now in negotiations with Dr. Luke for the last spot on the judges' panel, joining Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez.
Jackson announced in May he would not be judging this season. Fox chairman Kevil Reilly said that Jackson "will be back in some capacity. He is a friend of show, and certainly guests spots (are a real possibility)." Jackson would join Ryna Seacrest as the only on-air talent to be with the show since the first season if he stays.
Other changes for this season include David Hill replacing Fox reality head Mike Darnell in overseeing the show and Per Blankens, Jesse Ignjatovic & Evan Prager replacing Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick as executive producers.
