John Mayer settles for #2...
Luke Bryan's Crash My Party is once again #1 on the Billboard 200, selling 159,000 copies. It's only the sixth album this year (out of 29) to spend multiple weeks on top. This includes two albums that debuted at #1 in 2012: Taylor Swift's Red and Mumford & Sons' Babel. It's also the first country album by a male solo artist to spend multiple weeks at #1 since Lionel Richie's Tuskegee in spring 2012.
Coming in at #2 is John Mayer's Paradise Valley with 144,000. It is Mayer's fifth solo album to debut in the top two. His last two albums (2012's Born and Raised and 2009's Battle Studies) entered at #1 with 219,000 and 286,000, respectively. All of Mayer's six albums have hit the top ten. Paradise Valley is his smallest debut week since his debut album, 2001's Room for Squares, which started with 2,000 copies in May and peaked at #8 two years later in March 2003. This is the highest sales week for rock album since June, when Black Sabbath's 13 debuted at #1 with 155,000.
Coming in at #3 is another debut, with TGT's Three Kings selling 76,000 copies. The singers, Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank, also earned #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and the R&B Albums chart. This is the largest sales week for any of the three since May 2007, when Tank's solo album Sex Love & Pain started with 103,000. The three members have nine top ten albums on their own: Ginuwine has four, Tyrese has two and Tank has three.
At #4 is Jimmy Buffett with Songs From St. Somewhere, which sold 55,000 copies. It is his eleventh top ten album, going all the way back to 1978's Son of a Son of a Sailor, which peaked at #10. He didn't come back to the top ten until 1994's Fruitcakes, which hit #5.
Spot #5 belongs to Earl Sweatshirt with Doris. It sold 49,000 copies and debuts at #1 on the Top Rap Albums chart. He's followed on the rap chart at #2 by A$AP Ferg's Time Lord, which sold 32,000 copies and hits #9 on the Billboard 200, the final top ten debut this week. Last year, A$AP Mob member Rocky debuted at #1 with Love.Live.A$AP selling 139,000.
