"Roar" and "Blurred Lines" are neck-and-neck...
Robin Thicke and Katy Perry are in a close battle for the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 next week. Billboard reports that the two pop artists are running a tough race for the #1 spot next week, with Perry having the strong edge in digital sales but Thicke holding the edge in airplay.
The site notes that Perry's "Roar" is expected to see between 450,000 - 475,000 copies which should put it easily on top of the digital sales chart. Thicke's "Blurred Lines" is expected to see between 225,000 - 250,000 copies. Where Thicke's song has an advantage is that it will likely top the radio airplay charts while Perry's is still gaining momentum and is only now hitting the top 10. The exact placement will be revealed on Wednesday.
In other chart news, Eminem's "Berzerk" should hit the top 5 thanks to digital sales around the 350,000-375,000. The song is the first off his upcoming LP The Marshall Mathers LP 2. Lady Gaga's "Applause" should get a bump as well from its #4 spot thanks to an increase in sales stemming from her VMAs performance.
