Classic Albums From The Beatles To Get Gold And Platinum Awards

For the first time ever...
Music Week (via NME) reports that thirteen albums from The Beatles will receive gold or platinum awards for the first time thanks to a change of procedure from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).
The BPI decided to award gold discs for albums with 100,000 sales and platinum for albums with 300,000 sales as soon as the album passes the amount. Previously, a record company would have to contact the BPI to request the award.
With this change, Beatles albums like Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Abbey Road and Revolver will get gold or platinum awards. The awards only go back to 1994 when the Official Charts Company was founded, so the awards won't reflect the total sales figures. Sgt Pepper will be certified triple-platinum for sales of 900,000 since 1994, but it is believed to have sold around 5.1 million in the UK since 1967.
Albums by Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys and Marvin Gaye will also get platinum awards.
