His tour hits Argentina...
Billboard reports that Bruce Springsteen's tour has arrived in Argentina, and to celebrate Springsteen has uploaded a video him performing the Spanish song "I only ask of God" (Sólo le pido a Dios). He said he learned it from late Argentine folk singer Mercedes Sosa.
He mentioned the song at the end of a three-hour and twenty minute concert in Buenos Aires on Saturday night. He said he was too tired to sing it without screwing it up so he told them to look on his website in the next few days.
The song is a bilingual version of the Leon Gieco song written for the Argentines recovering from their 1976-1983 dictatorship. He introduces it in Spanish and mentions his last visit to Argentina in 1988, part of Amnesty International's "Human Rights Now!" tour.
He said: "My memories of that time are still very much alive. We came to Argentina when the country was going through a difficult time, and fighting for its future. For a foreigner, Argentina was very much alive, promising. So it's a huge inspiration for me to return here, and I want to leave this song to the people of Argentina."
His tour to support his latest album Wrecking Ball has visited Chile, Argentina and Brazil. In Santiago, he spoke of folk singer Victor Jara, who was killed during a 1973 coup and sang his song "Manifesto". He will next perform in Sao Paulo on Wednesday and Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.
