A better choice than Bruno Mars?
NME reports that fans are petitioning to have GWAR play the Super Bowl halftime show in 2015, after fans of the band said Bruno Mars was a "boring choice".
Over 18,000 people have supported the campaign, which would give GWAR a spot on the show. The band released their thirteenth album, Battle Maximus, yesterday. 110 million people worldwide watched Beyonce perform earlier this year. Previous performers include Madonna, The Who, Prince and Bruce Springsteen.
Campaign founder Jeff Cantrell said: "We don't want another year of sitting around talking through a muted, boring NFL Super Bowl halftime show. We want something different. We want a real spectacle that only Gwar can provide. Doesn't the NFL want more viewers? Don't advertisers want more people paying attention? This way everyone wins."
The post says that frontman Dave "Oderus Urungus" Brockie writes a monthly football column for MetalSucks.com and the band are big fans of the sport.
This comes after the news that Mars will play the event, as he tweeted: "We're Going to the the Super Bowl!!!!!!! #PepsiSBHalftime."
He later said the offer to perform was "just an honor". Super Bowl XLVIV will take place at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on February 2, 2014. Super Bowl XLIX will happen at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona on February 1, 2015.
