The students aren't happy...
WZZM reports that Grand Valley State University's pendulum statue has been removed after students were riding it naked, just like Miley Cyrus does in her music video for "Wrecking Ball".
The statue was removed from its normal location outside Padnos Hall of Science on Tuesday morning. It is a steel ball that hangs from a cable and looks like a wrecking ball. It was put into place in 1995. Students have swung on it for years, but thanks to the "Wrecking Ball" music video, some of them have been doing so while naked. One student posted a video on Vine, but it has since been removed.
Tim Thimmesch, associate vice president of facilities services at GVSU, said: "We've been reviewing this over the last couple of weeks, trying to decide whether we really need to look at structural integrity of the installation. We decided to have the ball removed and put into storage for now."
A group of students went outside of Padnos Hall on Tuesday night to protest the removal, and chanted "Wrecking Ball!" The story has had buzz on Twitter with #ReinstallTheBall and #GVSUWreckingBall trending. It has also been mentioned at the Huffington Post, E! News, Gawker, and Buzzfeed.
