2Pac also makes it into the top 10…
Billboard reports that alternative singer/songwriter Lorde debuted for the first time on the Billboard Social 50 chart after her recent increase in popularity.
Lorde recently released a hit single, "Royals," and enters the chart at No. 41. The rise was spurred on by fan engagement on Facebook. She received 120,000 new fans on the platform. Her music was played across SoundCloud and YouTube over 2 million times. The "Royals" video on YouTube had 1.73 million plays (a 16% increase from last week).
The late rapper, 2Pac, also had a dramatic rise on the chart, going from 43-10. This was prompted by the news that 2Pac's estate was filing a $1.1 million lawsuit against Entertainment One, the company that purchased Death Row Record's catalog earlier this year. The news that 2Pac would also be getting a film made about his life that would begin filming in 2014 also boosted his online social media profile. 2Pac now breaks into the Social 50 top 10 for the first time
Drake also surged this week, rising from 30-13. Drake had a 48% increase in fan acquisition due to online conversation around the release of his new album, Nothing Was The Same. The set debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week.
Rounding out the top 10: Miley Cyrus remained at No. 1; Katy Perry rose from 3-2; Justin Timberlake went down from 2-3; Taylor Swift went up from 6-4; Britney Spears went up from 7-5; Justin Bieber dropped down to the No. 6 spot; One Direction slipped from 5-7; Rihanna went up slightly from 9-8; and finally Shakira went up from 13-9.
