Drake falls to #3...
Miley Cyrus has debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 with her new album Bangerz, which sold 270,000 copies in its first week. This is her fifth #1 album if you include the albums she did as Hannah Montana. The first soundtrack for the Disney Channel show got to the top in 2006, along with the film soundtrack in 2009. Cyrus also got #1 debuts with Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus in 2007 and Breakout in 2008. Her last album, 2010's Can't Be Tamed, debuted and peaked at #3 with 102,000.
It's one of seven debuts in the top ten this week. Debuting at #2 is Panic! At the Disco's Too Weird to Live, Too Rare To Die with 84,000 copies. This is a huge increase from 2011's Vices & Virtues, which debuted and peaked at #7 with 56,000. It matches the peak of 2008's Pretty. Odd.., which also hit #2.
At #4 is Pusha T with My Name Is My Name, which sold 75,000 copies. This is his first top ten as a solo act but not total, as he went to #4 as part of the duo Clipse with 2002's Lord Willin'.
Coming in at #7 is the cast of Glee with the soundtrack to the October 10 episode, "The Quarterback". The episode deals with the death of the character Finn Hudson and is a tribute to actor Cory Monteith. Proceeds from the sales of the six song EP go to the charity Project Limelight. The last time a Glee album hit the top ten was December 24, 2011 with Glee: the Music, season 3 - Volume 7. That album debuted and peaked at #9. The Quarterback marks the fourteenth top ten album for the series.
Korn gets their twelfth top ten album with The Paradigm Shift at #8 with 46,000. All but one of their thirteen albums since 1996 have hit the top ten. 2006's Live & Rare is the only exception, as it debuted and peaked at #51.
Cassadee Pope, the third-season winner of NBC's The Voice, is at #9 with her first album Frame by Frame, which sold 43,000 copies. She is #1 on the Top Country Albums chart. She is the highest-charting act from The Voice. The only other act to release an album was Javier Colon (from season one). His album Come Through For You debuted and peaked at #134 with 10,000. Jermaine Paul (season two) and Danielle Bradbery (season four) have not released albums yet.
Finally, Mayday Parade gets its first top ten album with Monsters in the Closet at #10 with 30,000. This is the best sales week ever for the band, who have previously sold no more than 27,000 when 2011's self-titled album debuted and peaked at #12. Their label, Fearless Records, has only its second top ten album and first since 2007 when the Plain White T's Every Second Counts got #10 on August 11.
In other news, Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience - 2 of 2 dropped by 80% in its second week, dropping to #5 with 70,000. This is the biggest drop in a second week for a #1 debuting album since Kanye West's Yeezus fell by almost 81% in June.
