That's the rumor..
Billboard reports that Metallica may be performing in Antarctica this December. The Colombian website for Coca-Cola Zero started a sweepstakes for fans in six Colombian cities with the grand prize of a concert in Antarctica between December 2 and 15. Metallica's name can be found several times in the photo.
Here's a translation: INCENTIVES: • Travel with a companion to a Metallica concert in Antarctica. • Eight Gibson electric guitars + amp. • One hundred fifty Sony headphones.
In September, drummer Lars Ulrich told California's 107.7 The Bone that they had something big planned for that month. He said: "There's a very interesting thing coming our way in December. If anybody (in management) even knew that I just said what I just said, they would hunt me down and silence me. But there is another frontier coming in December, which we're very excited about."
Fall Out Boy attempted to play the continent in 2008 but had to cancel due to bad weather. McMurdo Station in the US has had open mic nights there for some time. In 2007, a five-piece band of British scientists called Nunatak claimed they performed Antarctica's first rock concert.
Earlier this year the band played at the Apollo Theater and then celebrated the retirement of the New York Yankees' Mariano Rivera by playing his entrance theme "Enter Sandman" at Yankee Stadium.
