After receiving threats...
Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, who a member of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot, has reportedly gone missing in prison. Tolokonnikova is serving a two-year sentence along with bandmate Maria Alyokhina for breach of public order motivated by religious hatred after they performed a 'punk prayer' protest against President Vladimir Putin at the Cathedral of Christ The Savior in Moscow in February 2012.
Buzzfeed reports that Tolokonnikova's family claim that she vanished after she was moved to another jail ten days ago. Her father Andrei said, "No one knows anything. There's no proof she's alive, we don't know the state of her health. Is she sick? Has she been beaten?"
Her husband Petya added, "We think they moved her to a big city to hide her. It seems they got sick of these protests… This is basically the only way they have to punish Nadya — 'let's cut her off from the outside world'."
Tolokonnikova was reportedly been moved to a prison in Alatyr in the Volga region of Chuvashiya "for her personal safety" after she conducted a hunger strike for nine days over the alleged inhumane working conditions she claims she was put through at Russia's Penal Colony No 14. Russian authorities refused to investigate reports of threats against her until recently, when the country's Investigative Committee said they had discovered no evidence of any wrong-doing.
