AWOLNATION'S "Sail" Hits Top Ten Of Longest-Charting Hot 100 Songs
Posted by Joseph Lee on 11.15.2013

Billboard reports that AWOLNATION's "Sail" has hit the list of the top ten longest-charting singles on the Hot 100 since its 1958 creation with 62 weeks on the chart.

The song debuted in Sepetember 2011. It originally ran for 20 weeks in early 2012 and got as high as #82, its peak on alternative radio. After exposure through viral videos and ads for BMW and History Channel's Vikings, the song re-entered the Hot 100 on February 9, 2013 and has stayed there ever since. It peaked at #17 on October 12 (and #17 on the top 40 Pop songs radio airplay chart two weeks later).

"Sail" is the first song in Hot 100 history to peak after a year on the chart. It has sold 4.1 million downloads.

AWOLNATION, real name Aaron Bruno, said: "I never actually expected people to hear the song at all. When I wrote it, I had thrown in the towel as far as anticipating any kind of commercial success."

His manager, Berko Pearce, added: "We knew that the song was powerful and that wherever it got played, people would react."
