Featuring unrecorded lyrics…
Auction house Sotheby's has announced that a handwritten working manuscript of the hit Bruce Springsteen track "Born to Run" will be put to action on December 5. The manuscript has a pre-sale estimate of $70,000 to $100,000 according to Sotheby's.
Sotheby's also said the document used to be in the collection of Springsteen's former manager, Mike Appel. Most of the lines in this manuscript were written in 1974 in Long Branch, New Jersey and are said to be unpublished and unrecorded. The manuscript does however have a "nearly perfected chorus.
Below is a sample of Springsteen's thought process and lyrics:
"This town'll rip the (out your) bones from yourback / it's a suicide trap (rap) (it's a trap to catch theyoung) your dead unless / you get out (we gotto) while your young so (come on! / with) take myhand cause tramps / like us baby we were born to run."
The document will be included in a Manhattan sale of fine books and manuscripts.
