Billboard Music Awards To Air On ABC On May 18

Billboard reports that the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, from Dick Clark Productions, will air live on ABC from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 18.

The three hour event had the highest ratings for the awards in 12 years on May 19. It won its 8-11 PM time period with total viewers, all adults (AD18-34/AD18-49/AD25-54) and teens 12-17. It also had 4.3 million tweets, up 182% year to year. Highlights included Prince being awarded the Icon Award, after which he performed a medley of "Let's Go Crazy," Edgar Winter's instrumental "Frankenstein" and "Fix Ur Life Up."

Madonna won Top Touring Artist and thanked her 2.2 million fans. She said: "A showgirl needs her fans. Thank you for supporting me for three decades."

Taylor Swift won eight awards from Red, Gotye won four awards for "Somebody That I Used To Know" and Rihanna won four for top R&B artist, album and song categories plus Radio Songs Artist. There were sixteen performances overall, including the TV debuts of Swift's "22", Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull's "Live It Up" and Bruno Mars' "Treasure". Will.I.Am and Justin Bieber performed "#Thatpower", Nicki Minaj gave Lil Wayne a lap dance while performing "High School" and Miguel used both black and white and 3D for his performance of "Adorn".
