UPDATED: Beyonce's New LP the Fastest-Selling Album Ever on iTunes
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 12.16.2013

UPDATED: While Beyonce's new album will (as reported below) be hitting physical retail stores by Friday, one place it won't hit is Target. The retailer told Billboard that they will not be stocking the album due to its release on iTunes first.

A spokesperson said, "At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections. While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce's new self-titled album 'Beyonce.'"

ORIGINAL: Beyonce's gamble to release her new album out of the blue is certainly paying off. iTunes and Columbia Records have revealed that the album has sold 828,773 copies worldwide in its first three days, making it the fastest-selling album ever worldwide in the iTunes Store.

Of that number, 617,000 were sold in the first week through the store, which is where the self-titled LP was exclusively released. Billboard reports that a physical version of the album will hit stores by Friday.
