Former Lostprophets Singer Ian Watkins Sentenced To 29 Years For Sex Crimes
Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.18.2013

Billboard reports that Ian Watkins, the former lead singer of Lostprophets, was sentenced to 29 years in jail today with a British judge saying that Watkins "plumbed new depths of depravity" for his multiple sex crimes against very young children. Watkins (who is 36), pleaded guilty last month to thirteen charges including trying to rape a baby, sexually touching a 1-year-old, encouraging a fan to abuse her child and making child pornography.

Judge John Royce said in sentencing at Cardiff Crown Court that Watkins was a "manipulative" and "dangerous" sexual predator who abused his fame to help his "insatiable lust."

Royce added: "Those who have appeared in these courts over many years see a large number of horrific cases. This case, however, breaks new ground."

Watkins, who was shaking during sentencing, must serve at least two-thirds of the sentence and then spend six more years on strict probation. Police are currently investigating if Watkins had other victims elsewhere given his touring schedule. Detective Chief Inspector Peter Doyle said that they were looking at leads in Germany and have been in touch with Interpol, the German Federal Police and U.S. Homeland Security.

Meanwhile, the band, which formed in 1997 and had a chart-topping album in 2006 with Liberation Transmission, announced they were disbanding after his arrest.

Two female accomplices, who were described by prosecutors as "active participants in the most shocking abuse of their own children," were sentenced to 15 and 16 years respectively. They have not been named in order to protect their children.
