Lana Del Rey's Best Song Oscar Hopes Being Sabotaged

Someone doesn't want Lana Del Rey to be eligible for an Oscar for Best Song. Deadline reports that an anonymous envelope was mailed to members of the Academy music selection committee containing a printed article from Variety.com that said Del Rey's "Young and Beautiful" from The Great Gatsby has been disqualified from consideration for the Best Original Song category.
The only problem: no such article exists, and "Young and Beautiful" remains eligible along with four other songs from the film.
Smear campaigns are not a new phenomenon for the Best Song category; it has come up many times before, most recently when a story surfaced in 2004 that Kathleen York's "In the Deep" from Crash was several years old and thus ineligible, when in fact it wasn't.
Warner Bros. is now working on a new featurette about the song and its use in Great Gatsby to combat the smear campaign.
