He's not too happy about it though...
Vladimir Putin has confirmed that the two remaining jailed members of Pussy Riot are set to be released under Russia's new amnesty bill. Billboard reports that the Russian president said during his annual news conference that Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina will be freed under the bill, which will see around 25,000 people who have committed nonviolent crimes or are mothers to small children, will be released.
Putin admonished the two members of the punk band during the conference, saying, "I feel sorry not because they went to prison, but because they committed that provocative act, which degraded women." He added that the two are not receiving special treatment, saying, "This isn't a revision of the court verdict. This is an overall decision, which applies to them."
The women are serving two-year sentences on a conviction of hooliganism for staging an anti-Putin "punk prayer" at the Christ the Savior cathedral in Moscow last year during the country's election. The pair will likely be out before the year is over; prison authorities say they are waiting for documents necessary for their release.
