Amazon Not Stocking Beyonce's New Album

Physical copies, anyway...
Amazon has joined Target in boycotting Beyonce's album following its iTunes-exclusive digital release. The album was released last Friday on iTunes only with brick and mortar stores receiving physical copies in the past few days. Billboard reports that while Amazon is selling the digital copy for $15.99, it is not selling physical CD versions.
The move is seen as an act of protest because of the iTunes digital exclusive. Amazon is also reportedly not pleased with the fact that Sony Music decreed that the album was unable to be pre-sold, which has been seen as protecting the iTunes window. Pre-sales are a big way for retailers to make money on phyiscal copies.
Sources say that Amazon may be considering other actions in response to the move, though conversations are said to be ongoing between it and Sony. The album isn't hurting in sales though; it sold 610,000 copies in its first three days and will sell around 260,000 copies in its second week. Columbia and Amazon have not yet responded to a request for comment.
