They plan on covering more at a concert tonight...
NME reports that The Flaming Lips have covered The Beatles' 1967 song 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds'. Singer Wayne Coyne posted a link to the song on his Instagram. The song is ap review of the band's upcoming New Year's Eve show where they will perform a set of only late-era Beatles songs written by John Lennon tonight in Aspen, Colorado. They have been rehearsing 'Tomorrow Never Knows', 'Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey', 'Come Together', 'I Want You (She's So Heavy)', 'Across The Universe' and 'Dear Prudence'.
The band have previously released rehearsal footage of those songs on Instagram. They are known for their over-the-top live shows, which include a glitter cannon, fake blood, costumes and Coyne walking across the crowd in a giant orb. Their New Years' Eve shows are even more outrageous. They have previously performed albums in their entirety like their Soft Album and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. The performance will be aired on Sirius XM. The Flaming Lips previously released their thirteenth album, The Terror, in April of this year.
