Rhode Island Residents Upset With Taylor Swift For Destroying Their Coastline
Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.31.2013

TMZ reports that residents of the small Rhode Island community of Westerly are upset that Taylor Swift is removing tons of rocks from the coastline in an effort to build a wall around her property and 11,000 square foot mansion. They claim it is messing with the wave break in the town.

A neighbor said: "It was bad enough when she moved in, but to ruin a part of the town for all of us ... this is a whole new level of hate."

Some residents say that the wall is removing the public access they have enjoyed for years. Swift's people say that government officials actually asked her to remove some of the rocks that had drifted into the ocean back to her property line and that's what the residents are seeing. They also say the wall she's building is in the same spot as the original wall that was built decades ago but eroded over the years.

The previous owners built a wall closer to the mansion, but it was destroyed during Hurricane Sandy last year. Swift is simply building where the original wall was, but the residents are used to having the beach and now they'll no longer have access. Officials say that Swift has acquired all of the necessary permits.
