Deadline reports that Q-Tip is working with Leonardo Dicaprio and Jonah Hill to develop a TV series loosely based on his days with Native Tonugues. A writer has not been hired yet but it will be produced by DiCaprio's production company Appian Way and taken to networks next week.
Q-Tip has been friends with DiCaprio for a long time. He is a founding member of A Tribe Called Quest (formed in 1985 with his high school friends Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White. The series will focus on Q-Tip's experiences with A Tribe Called Quest and the Native Tongues collective it was a part of. The collective brought together late 1980s and early 1990s hip-hip artists known for Afrocentric lyrics.
The series will look at the stories of their friendship and how their music impacted pop culture then and now. DiCaprio and Hill can currently be seen in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, which was nominated for two Golden Globes (best comedy or musical film, best actor for DiCaprio)
