Shakira And Rihanna's Single Already A Hit On Radio
Posted by Joseph Lee on 01.14.2014

Billboard reports that Shakira's new single with Rihanna, "Can't Remember To Forget You", is already a hit on pop and latin radio after its release yesterday. The song is the first track from Shakira's first RCA Records album, which arrives on March 25. This will be her first English-language album since 2009's She Wolf.

The song has already jumped into the top 20 of the Pop Songs and Latin Pop Songs building charts. Airplay has been helped by hourly plays yesterday on participating Clear Channel Media + Entertainment-owned English-language pop stations. It receieved 1,172 first-day plays on 143 stations in the United States, which equals about 11 million all-format audience impressions.

Radio programmers say that this is a good sign for the song. Clear Channel-owned WHTZ (Z100) New York (which played the song 16 times yesterday) program director Sharon Dastur said: "When I heard that Shakira would be collaborating with Rihanna on her new single, I couldn't wait to hear it. After I first heard it, it exceeded my expectations in a great way. Their voices sound wonderful together. Listener reaction on the phones and our social media has been great. Shakira is back."

Alex Tear, WHYI (Y100) Miami VP of programming and Clear Channel national top 40 brand coordinator added: "My first impression of [hearing] the track was excitement. I couldn't wait to find out our listeners' reactions, as they are the ultimate judge and jury. Response was immediately positive and curious. Shakira's ties with Miami and South Florida are very tight and Ri's track record speaks for itself. We expect this pair of dynamic females to do well. We're looking forward to more tracks from Shakira to make 2014 big for her."

Y100 also played the song sixteen times yesterday. The song is also in the top ten of the iTunes store.
