For artists and managers...
NME reports that Spotify launched a new service that lets artists and managers promote their merchandise on Spotify for free. It was launched with Topspin. Artists can display t-shirts, vinyl, posters, bundles and other merchandise to fans and followers.
It uses TopSpin's ArtistLinks tool, which let's the artist link to any any web-based merchandise vendor they want. The artist then posts an item on Spotify by adding an image, title and description with the URL to the item in their store. Each listing will be moderated and approved by Spotify to make sure it's legitimate. It will then appear on the listing within 24 to 28 hours.
Led Zeppelin are currently trying out the new system after allowing their their back catalog to be used on the service recently (as did Oasis). Spotify is now free on any platform including mobiles and tablets. It previously required a paid subscription to use smartphone and tablet apps, with the free service on desktop only.
