She wasn't there to know she won...
Courtney Love missed the verdict in her own defamation trial. Spin reports that Love wasn't present to find out that she was found not liable of defaming her former lawyer Rhonda Holmes via Twiiter on Friday and that the verdict was read at 4:30 PM, which is past the normal closing time after Love wasn't present.
Love was being sued by Holmes for comments made on Twitter, accusing the lawyer of being "bought off." When she arrived back at the courthouse and learned of the verdict, she said, "I feel really good. I am relieved. I am really happy to have had good counsel for the first time in 24 years." She said she was shaking before the verdict was announced.
Her attorney added, "I don't think it's a case that will change the law, but it is a very good result for Courtney." For his part, Holmes' lawyer Mitch Langberg said, "I am disappointed. But I am happy that the jury did believe the statements about Rhonda were false. At the end of the day her biggest asset is her reputation."
Ultimately the verdict game down to the fact that jury members believed that Love did not know the statement on Twitter wasn't true, even if it did contain false information. Love's legal team had argued that the Tweet was supposed to be a direct message and was deleted within minutes of it being sent.
