Macklemore & Ryan Lews Grammy Performance of “Same Love” Will Feature On-Air Weddings

The New York Times' ArtBeats reports that Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will be performing a marriage-equality anthem during an on-air ceremony.

34 couples from different orientations and backgrounds, including gay, straight, of different races, and such, will be married their the "Same Love" performance at the Grammys today.

Lewis own sister will be taking part in the ceremony to marry her boyfriend. Lewis stated, that the weddings "will be in our minds the ultimate statement of equality, that all the couples are entitled to the same exact thing."

Queen Latifah will be the officiant for the ceremony, and the rap duo will perform with Seattle-based singer Mary Lambert and Madonna.

Neil Portnow, president of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, said of the performance, "We don't need to stoop to the level of trying to find gimmicks and sensationalistic approaches to what we do," he said.

The Grammys will broadcast tonight at 8PM on CBS.
