Katy Perry Gets Ninth #1 On Billboard Hot 100
Posted by Joseph Lee on 01.29.2014

Billboard reports that Katy Perry's song "Dark Horse" (with Juicy J) has climbed to #1 on the Hot 100. This is her ninth song on top and Juicy J's first. Her previous #1 songs include "I Kissed a Girl" (2008), "California Gurls," featuring Snoop Dogg, "Teenage Dream," "Firework" (2010), "E.T.," featuring Kanye West, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" (2011), "Part of Me" (2012), "Roar" (2013). She is now tied with Rihanna for most #1 songs this decade (with eight), ahead of Bruno Mars (5), Adele (3), Eminem (3) and Ke$ha (3).

She is now in a five-way tie for tenth most #1 songs, joined by Bee Gees, Elton John, Paul McCartney (solo/away from the Beatles) and Usher. They trailed The Beatles (20), Mariah Carey (18), Michael Jackson, Rihanna (13 each), Madonna, the Supremes (12 each), Whitney Houston (11), Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder (10 each).

Perry said in a statement: "This No. 1 is the most unexpected one I've ever had. 'Dark Horse' has been a dark horse of a song, since August when the KatyCats voted to release it early on iTunes, before 'PRISM' even came out. I'm so thrilled and grateful to have these moments."

The first half of the top ten on this week's Hot 100 also includes Pitbull's "Timber", OneRepublic's "Counting Stars", A Great Big World's "Say Something" and Eminem's "The Monster". On the second half, we have Jason DeRulo's "Talk Dirty", Passenger's "Let Her Go", Lorde's songs "Team" and "Royals", and finally Bastille's "Pompeii".
