Kendrick Lamar Says Macklemore Deserved His Grammy
Posted by Joseph Lee on 01.30.2014

In an interview with XXL magazine, Kendrick Lamar essentially said there were no hard feelings for losing Grammys to Macklemore, who he thinks deserved the win. Macklemore beat Lamar for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance. Macklemore also won for Best New Artist. Fans on Twitter, artists like Fabolous and YG and even Macklemore gave their thoughts about it. Macklemore actually texted Lamar to apologize and said Good kid, MAAD city deserved Best Rap Album.

After his performance with Dom Kennedy in New York City last night, Lamar said: "It's well deserved; he did what he did, man. He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that's how it go."

When asked if the Grammys didn't value hip-hop, he replied: "I definitely feel like they should always have more of the culture up in there, for sure, because we definitely stand out just like any other genre. We part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because it's music as a whole, it's not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and that's how it goes. And we are a part of that."

TDE CEO Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith tweeted in December of last year that every TDE artist will release a project this year. Isaiah Rashard released his debut EP Cilvia at midnight on Monday and ScHoolboy Q will release his debut album Oxymoron on February 25.

Lamar was asked if he also has a studio on the way. He said: "I wouldn't even know. I got to get back into the studio and vibe out. But once I get in there, for sure, I'll let y'all know."
