Because of the country's civil unrest...
Depeche Mode has canceled their planned tour date in Kiev, Ukraine over the civil unrest and violence gripping the country. Billboard reports that the band announced they would not be performing their planned show this Wednesday due to "current civil unrest and instability in Kiev and the whole of Ukraine."
A statement on Depeche Mode's official site read, "The safety and security of the band, crew and fans is the highest priority, and at this time it is not possible to ensure a safe and enjoyable concert experience for everyone involved… The band's thoughts are with the Ukrainians during this challenging period and they sincerely look forward to the next time they can perform for the fans in Kiev and Ukraine."
The country has been plagued with violence and protests for months after president Viktor Yanukovych enacted anti-protest laws and allegedly set the military against civilians. Eighty-two died in the last week as a result of violent clashes between protestors and police.
