Producers have shut down production…
Billboard reports that filmmakers have halted production on a movie based on the life of Gregg Allman a week after a freight train collided into the production team and its equipment. One crew member died and seven others were injured in the process.
Savannah Film Office director William Hammargren stated on Thursday that film producers had called to tell him they were "shutting down production." The office is a city government agency that works closely with filmmakers shooting in the Savannah area.
The movie, Midnight Rider, starring William Hurt as the Allman Brothers Band singer, had just started filming when the accident occurred on February 20. Investigators say the crew was on the tracks without the railroad's permission. A publicist for the film's production company, Nadine Johnson, did not immediately return phone and e-mail messages on the subject.
