Bugg takes shots at reality shows and One Direction...
Jake Bugg called American Idol a "dream smasher" in a recent interview. The singer spoke with BBC Newsbeat and talked about his appearance on the show, taking a few shots in the process.
Bugg, who's been outspoken about his disdain for reality singing shows, said, "For my sins, as I talked about those shows so much, I thought it might be an idea to actually go and experience it. So we ended up doing the American Idol show because one of the judges, Keith Urban, wanted us to do it. I thought we might as well, we play music, it's something a bit different for the kids on those shows. And some of those kids might only have one television in their house and their big sister might be in control of the remote."
He said of the appearance, "It was quite sad. We went on just before they said to the contestant 'yeah you're not through' and she was really heartbroken. It's cruel. It's like thanks for coming on the show but you'll never get a record contract. It's the dream smasher, that's what it is, the dream smasher."
Bug also slammed the Brit Awards, saying, "It's really boring, it's so boring. I don't mind losing out to David Bowie but how can you have a category with him in it and four people that have made one or two albums? I say don't put him in that category. Give him a lifetime achievement or whatever."
And finally, he also fired off at One Direction, noting, "To make up an award just so One Direction win it and turn up is a bit wrong but that's it, it's showbusiness."
