But he's suing over them...
TMZ reports that John Mayer knew the $5 million worth of Rolex watches he bought are fake, because he posted on a message board stating he knew. He is suing Robert Maron, claiming the watches had counterfeit parts.
A letter from Maron's lawyer Eric George was sent to Mayer's attorney before the lawsuit was filed. George quotes Mayer posting on a Rolex message board in 2007 saying he knew the Flat Dial type of Rolex contained "counterfeit" parts and some people believed they weren't true Rolexes. Mayer said he didn't care and wanted to get as many as he could.
He wrote: "Anyone who wants to sell me one of these watches can get these fake pieces off their hands and make a killing on it. I will even accept a letter from you as a dealer releasing you from any liability in having sold me a counterfeit dial. I will be buying these as counterfeits."
George said that this proves Mayer knew the watches were fake and any claims to the contrary are false.
