The Seattle Times reports that the Seattle Police Department have denied a rumor that the department had reopened the case of Kurt Cobain's death.
Police spokeswoman Renee Witt confirmed that no new findings were made after a cold-case detective recently re-investigated the case. The cased that was ruled a suicide in 1994 will remain shut. The rumor comes from a KIRO 7 report that said it obtained a photo from previously undeveloped 35 mm film police found at the crime scene 20 years ago. They are planning to unveil the photo during an 11PM newscast and interview with the detective.
Witt says the photo is "underwhelming" and the department announced on their Twitter feed that they will not reopen the case as no new findings were made. However, earlier today the KIRO managing editor Jake Milstein said on Twitter that a detective told the station that the case had been reopened.
Kurt Cobain's body was discovered by a visiting electrical employee on April 8, 1994. Per an investigation, Cobain had killed himself with a shotgun three days prior.
