Andre 3000 and Babyface Working With Aretha Franklin On New Music
Posted by Joseph Lee on 03.23.2014

Billboard reports that Aretha Franklin celebrated her 72nd birthday in New York City yesterday with a small party at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Those in attendance included Denzel Washington, who she watched earlier that day in the Broadway play A Raisin in the Sun. Clive Davis, who has worked with her for years, was also there.

She mentioned at the event that she was working on new music with Andre 3000 and Babyface. She said: "Babyface is working on the tracks. So, I'm just waiting for him to finish that so he can finish my tracks please. And I think Andre 2000 - is it two or three? 3000 is going to be doing some of the tracks with him."

When asked what she wanted for her birthday, she added: "I'm looking for a record deal for my granddaughter Victorie, and my son Kecalf. I would be happy with that."

The two performed together at the BET Honors special, which paid tribute to Franklin. Babyface, meanwhile, is currently performing with Toni Braxton in the Broadway musical After Midnight, which pays tribute to Duke Ellington's time at the Cotton Club in Harlem. They will be a part of the show until March 30.

Franklin herself performed at the White House earlier this month with Patti LaBelle, Jill Scott and other soul singers.

She said: "What a shoutin' good time we had. The White House is still rocking right now!"
