Simon Cowell Lowering Audition Age for The X Factor Back to 14
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 04.05.2014

The Sun (via OK!) reports that Simon Cowell is making the controversial decision to lower the age limit for The X Factor this year by two years. That would make the audition age to just 14 once more.

Cowell is reportedly desperate to find another One Direction. A source said, "Simon knows that young people make the best pop stars. He desperately wants another One Direction or Cher Lloyd, and they were very young when they appeared on the show."

The X Factor previously allowed 14 years as the audition age in 2008 for Liam Payne. After receiving criticism, Cowell put the age restriction back up to 16, where it has stayed since.

Auditions for The X Factor start today (April 5).
