Frozen Soundtrack Takes Ninth Week On Top Of Billboard 200
Posted by Joseph Lee on 04.09.2014

Disney's Frozen soundtrack is #1 on the Billboard 200 for the ninth nonconsecutive week with 149,000 copies sold. It is a week away from tying the record for longest run at #1 for an animated film soundtrack, currently held by The Lion King with ten. That soundtrack had ten nonconsecutive weeks between 1994 and 1995. Frozen has sold 1.9 million copies and has been among the top three best-selling albums for the last fourteen weeks.

Coming in at #2 is Australian pop rock band 5 Seconds of Summer with their EP She Looks So Perfect. It was released by Capitol Records and sold 143,000 copies. Downloads made up 75% of the album's sales. It was not as high as previously predicted, as experts claimed it would sell between 150,000 to 200,000, based on the pre-orders in the iTunes Store, which had been building since late February. By Friday, the estimate was dropped down to between 130,000 to 140,000. The band are most known for opening for One Direction during their tour last year. They will once again open for the group during their Europe, US and Canada portions of the tour starting May 23. Both acts are represented by Modest Management.

#3 belongs to Chevelle with La Gargola with 45,000 copies sold. This beats its #6 debut and peak for 2009's Sci-Fi Crimes, but it's not the best sales week. At #4 is Christina Perri with Head or Heart, which sold 40,000 copies. This matches her previous high with 2011's Lovestrong but doesn't beat that album's first week sales of 58,000.

Dan + Shay debut at #6 with Where It All Began with 29,000. It is the duo's first album and is led by the single "19 You + Me", which is up 12-11 on the Country Airplay chart. Meanwhile, Nickel Creek is at #7 with A Dotted Line, which sold 27,000 copies. This is the act's first album in almost nine years and their first top ten. It last charted in 2005 with Why Should The Fire Die at #17.
