MC Hammer Says IRS Trying to Collect Penalties on Taxes He Paid Years Ago

MC Hammer says he's a victim of a vendetta on the part of the IRS. The "Can't Touch This" and "2 Legit to Quit" rapper had an infamous financial flame out after his career died in the mid-1990s and declared bankruptcy in 1996. Now, Hammer tells TMZ that the IRS is going after him for taxes that he paid all the way back in 2007.
According to documents filed by Hammer, he paid off over $7 million in debt in 2007, which included over $1.4 million in taxes owed to the IRS. He claims that the government is now going after him for another $1.4 in penalties and interest on the paid-off taxes.
Hammer is asking a judge to block the IRS from collecting the penalties due to "basic principles of fairness."
