On May 24...
Billboard reports that the Golden Gods Awards will return to television as it will air on May 24 on VH1 Classic at 8 PM ET/PT. The ceremony is dedicated to hard rock and heavy metal. It is produced by Dick Clark Productions and Revolver magazine. The four-hour live show will tape on April 23 at the Club Nokia in Los Angeles. It will stream at VH1.com and on VH1's mobile app. The "black carpet" ceremony will be hosted by Dee Snider. The broadcast on May 24 will be an edited 90-minute version.
Axl Rose will be presented with the 2014 Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award. Joan Jett will be the first ever female to get a Golden God award, presented by 2011 winner Alice Cooper. Guns N' Roses and Jett will also perform along with Zakk Wylde, who will play a tribute to the heavy metal and hard rock legends who died in the past year. Others scheduled to appear include Dave Navarro, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Andrew Dice Clay, Joe Manganiello, Tony Hawk, Pauley Perrette, Carmen Electra, A Day To Remember and The Pretty Reckless. It will be hosted by the hosts of That Metal Show: Eddie Trunk, Don Jamieson and Jim Florentine.
Dick Clark Productions executive producer Assaf Blecher said: "We are very into music properties, so it's just natural that the Golden Gods would make sense for us. The show is a good combination [of older] and newer heavy-metal icons, and it's a great occasion for the community to come together for a one-night only event."
Blecher will executive produce with Paul Cockerill for DCP. Lee Rolontz, Rick Krim and Jay Moran will executive produce for VH1 Classic and Alana Zinn will executive produce for Revolver magazine. Rolontz, the executive vice president of music production for VH1 and VH1 Classic, said: "The VH1 Classic audience has a rabid appetite for all things hard rock and metal, so bringing our audience the only hard rock awards show was a must-do on our programming list."
