Man Accused of Running Over SXSW Festival Attendees Faces Four New Charges
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 04.20.2014

The Austin-American Statesman reports that Rashad Owens, the man accused of fatally running down attendees at this year's South by Southwest festival, is now facing four new charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Owens is currently charged with murder and 20 counts of aggravated assault. The new charges add $500,000 to his $5 million bail, per jail records. The new assault charges come from injuries ranging from scratches to a fractured neck.

Owens is accused of accelerating through a SXSW crowd while he was driving drunk. Four people died and 17 were injured. Police say Owens fleed a patrolman and drove down a closed street during the festival when the incident happened.
