Scorpions Drummer Arrested In Dubai For Insulting Islam
Posted by Joseph Lee on 04.29.2014

Several newspapers in the United Arab Emirates are reporting that Scorpions drummer James Kottak has been arrested and sentenced to one month in jail for "offensive behavior" in Dubai. The National, a government-sponsored paper, said that Kottak was convicted of insulting Islam, raising his middle ringer and being under the influence of alcohol while at the Dubai airport. Kottak allegedly ranted about "non-educated Muslims" and covered his nose when he saw Pakistani and Afghan passengers in the area. He also pulled his pants down.

The Gulf News added that he was arrested on April 3 while traveling from Russia to Bahrain. The Scorpions, which he joined in 1996, were set to perform at a Formula One race. Kottak didn't show up for the April 5 concert. Kottak admitted to drinking but denied the other charges.

He said: "There is no way that I would say such a phrase about Muslims, whether I was drunk or not. I confess to drinking alcohol but I refuse the other two charges, I did not do them."
