The 20th anniversary...
Billboard reports that Nas will headline the kickoff for the 20th annual Essence Festival as part of the "Now Playing" concert. It will take place at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans on July 3. The concert also features Trey Songz, K. Michelle and Jazmine Sullivan, with more performers being announced in the coming weeks.
Nas is currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of his 1994 debut album Illmatic. Prince will headline the first night of main concerts on July 4, followed by performances from Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott and The Roots (July 5) and Lionel Richie, Charlie Wilson and Erykah Badu (July 6). The artists who will perform at the Superlounges on those nights include Stephanie Mills, 112, Liv Warfield, Marsha Ambrosius, Robert Glasper, Sevyn Streeter, Elle Varner and August Alsina.
