All for a good cause...
BBC News reports that a phone belonging to LA Police Commission president Steve Soboroff, broken and signed by Rihanna, sold for over $58,000 on eBay. Soboroff sat next to Rihanna at the Los Angeles Clippers playoff game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He asked for a selfie but Rihanna dropped it accidentally and broke the screen.
He saw her against a game on Sunday and asked her to sign it before he put it up for auction. She wrote "Sorry! I love LAPD. Rihanna". The sale ended yesterday and helped support the Los Angeles Police Department Foundation. Half of the money will go to the LAPD cadet program. The initiative needed $240,000 to help children enroll, attend and graduate. The rest of the money will go to the Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation, to support the families of officers who have died on duty. The force has lost five officers since March 7 of this year.
Rihanna also made a separate donation of $25,000 to the foundation.
Soboroff said: "Thank you Rihanna and all of her wonderful fans who have made this story go viral, and for your interest in supporting the Los Angeles Police Foundation."
The auction page added: "The phone still works, but the screen is cracked because Rihanna dropped it! It has been reset and wiped clean."
