Posted by Joseph Lee on 05.21.2014

The Black Keys managed to defeat Michael Jackson to get #1 on the Billboard 200. Turn Blue sold 164,000 copies while Jackson's Xscape sold 157,000 copies to get #2. Both did better than predicted, as it was believed they would sell around 150,000 to 155,000 each.

Turn Blue is the third top ten album for the Black Keys after the #2 debut of 2011's El Camino (206,000) and the #3 debut of 2010's Brothers. The album's first single, "Fever", got to the top of the Alternative airplay and Rock airplay charts.

Xscape is Jackson's tenth top ten album. He previously hit the top ten with Ben (#5 peak in 1972), Off the Wall (#3, 1980), Thriller (#1, 1982), Bad (#1, 1987), Dangerous (#1, 1992), History: Past, Present and Future Book 1 (#1, 1995), Invincible (#1, 2001), Michael Jackson's This Is It soundtrack (#1, 2009) and Michael (#3, 2010). It was supported by the duet with Justin Timberlake, "Love Never Felt So Good". That was his 28th top 40 song on the Hot 100 when it debuted at #20 on May 17. The video was released on May 14. Four days later, a hologram of Jackson performed the song "Slave to the Rhythm" at the Billboard Music Awards.
