New Public Campaign Launched To Get Kanye West To Run For Mayor Of Chicago

Yes, this is a real thing...
Someone has actually launched a campaign to make Kanye West the Mayor of Chicago next year. Artist and writer Ben Shepard launched the website Kanye4Mayor.org, which includes sections on "Why", "How" and Who", along with an explanation of the campaign. Believe it or not, Shepard is completely serious about this.
He wrote: "Why? Because Chicago is headed in the wrong direction and Mayor West could lead a movement to make it the best city in the world," before going on to list the reasons for his claims as to the suitability of the rapper.
Nobody in Chicago is organized or powerful enough to lead the movement. ‘Leading' means providing enough charisma to motivate massive public participation and enough organizational savvy to make that participation meaningful.
The ideal candidate has three qualities. (1) They share a vision of a New Chicago for and by all Chicagoans. (2) They are famous, because fame is crystallized charismatic authority and this kind of big change needs significant authority. (3) They are not associated with existing Chicago politics and willing to use creative methods.
Kanye West is famous, not associated with the existing power structure and clearly willing to use creative methods. There is no way to tell if he shares the vision of a New Chicago but three pieces of evidence suggest he might be: First is the fact that he grew up in the South Side and presumably understands the situation. Second are the politics implied by the lyrics and remarks as quoted all over this site. Third is the final track of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Beautiful Fantasy [‘See Me Now']."
He then wrote an open letter to West, pointing out which areas he thinks should be changed the most, including schools, democracy, public transport and peace. The current Mayor is Democratic Party member Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who has been there since 2011. The next election happens on February 24, 2015. Kanye West has not responded.
