It's not legal there...
The Daily Mail has revealed a video that shows One Direction members Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson smoking a joint as they make jokes about drug use. Tomlinson is shooting the video and narrates while they are in the back of an SUV driving through Lima, Peru to a concert at the Estadio Nacional. The band later performed there on April 27 to an audience of 40,000 people on the Where We Are tour. It was the same show in which dozens of fans were treated for asphyxia.
Tomlinson said at the start of the video as they leave the garage: "So here we are, leaving Peru. Joint lit. Happy days. What do you think Zayn, about that type of content?"
Malik replied (while wearing a Bob Marley tank top): "Very controversial."
The video is edited down to five minutes as the two pass the joint back and forth and act silly. Later, Tomlinson smokes some and blows it into the camera while Mailk sings.
Tomlinson said: "That's just Zayn warming up there before the show. Zayn takes his job very seriously. He makes sure he goes through a two-hour intense warm up regime before every show, just to get himself in the zone. One very, very important factor to Zayn's warm up, of course is Mary J, herself. In fact I'm presenting it to him now for some fantastic singing."
Later, he looked at a police officer on a motorcyle escorting them and said: "He's having a look. He's thinking. I'm sure I can smell an illegal substance in there. And he's hit the nail on the head."
As they get closer, Malik talks about a photo book of Kid Rock's with praise while slamming the One Direction book. He said: "It's about twice the size, hardback, black, simple writing, the whole thing just filled with sick pictures … No bullshit like ‘My favorite color's blue.' ‘My favorite color's red.'" … Sick shit instead of boring crap."
Tomlinson added: "Yeah, the same bullshit that I"m sure the fans are bored of reading."
Malik then says to "let them know what we're up to now" before he praises Rock's book for a photo of him smoking a joint and flipping the middle finger to the camera.
For the record, marijuana is illegal in Peru. However, possession is not punishable if it's for personal and immediate use in amounts not higher than eight grams.
