It's a big deal...
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eminem is the first artist to get RIAA Digital Single Diamond Awards. The award marks sales and streams of over ten million. He received the award for "Not Afraid" (from 2010's Recovery), which has sold 4.5 million in the US and over ten million worldwide. It joins the 11x multi-platinum single "Love The Way You Lie" (ft. Rihanna) for the honor.
RIAA chairman/CEO Cary Sherman said: "We are delighted to recognize Eminem as the first artist to earn two RIAA Digital Diamond Awards. This singular achievement – earning a Diamond Award on two separate digital songs – is unparalleled, and we congratulate him on forever etching a mark in Gold & Platinum Program history."
Eminem also has two 10x multi-Platinum Diamond certified albums: 2000's The Marshall Mathers LP and 2002's The Eminem Show on Aftermath/Interscope. He has 37 million albums sold in the US for his entire career, which puts him at #44 on the RIAA list of "Top Selling Artists" of all time, behind Bob Dylan and ahead of the Backstreet Boys. His digital single sales are over 31 million, including downloads and streams for ten separate songs. That puts him at #6 behind Kanye West (31.5 million) and ahead of Flo Rida (29.5 million). The Marshall Mathers LP 2 has sold 2.1 million since it was released in November 2013.
