Peace Say Arctic Monkeys Aren't Indie After AM Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 06.11.2014
"Where's the indie in that?"
There's a strong and divergent set of opinions on what the term "indie rock" means. For some it means quite simply a rock band that isn't signed to a major label, while for many it is a specific genre of music that grew out of independently-released rock music. Either way, the band Peace is casting some doubt on the status of indie rock icons Arctic Monkeys, saying that they shouldn't qualify as an indie band anymore.
Peace frontman Harry Koisser took a shot at the band in an interview for Zero Magazine, saying, "Arctic Monkeys are still called an indie band, but the closest thing their new record sounds like somewhere between Black Sabbath and Dr Dre. Where's the indie in that?"
Arctic Monkeys have yet to respond but I'm sure they will at some point.
